Central Office Switch / Router (Regulated Backplane)

Central office switch/router line cards powered by a 48 V telecom distributed backplane require an IBC (Intermediate Bus Converter) to generate a lower voltage (9.6 V – 12 V) bus to further power downstream point-of-load regulators. Vicor’s highest power density IBC/BCM bus converter products differentiate themselves by using a patented SAC (Sine Amplitude Converter) topology that achieves up to 98% efficiency and provides the highest usable power in the least amount of board space. In addition, require less output capacitance and provide lower input/output ripple than competitors.
PoE Powered Device
PoE devices (Power over Ethernet) operate from a 48 V (54 V max) telecom rail and consume up to 25 W. Vicor offers ZVS (Zero-Voltage Switching) isolated and non-isolated converters that provide high input to low output voltage conversions with the highest efficiency, smallest package sizes, and the lowest output ripple.

DC Converters – Isolated Fixed Ratio

  VI Brick Intermediate Bus Converter
These Intermediate Bus Converter (IBC) Modules are very efficient, low profile, isolated, fixed ratio converters for power system applications in enterprise and optical access networks. Rated at up to 850 W, these IBCs conform to industry standard eighth and quarter-brick footprints. The greatly increased power cabability often allows the eighth brick to replace a conventional quarter brick, while the quarter bricks can replace two or more conventional quarter bricks. Their leading efficiency enables full power operation at 65°C with as little as 400LFM airflow. Their small cross section facilitates unimpeded airflow — above and below the thin body — to minimize the temperature rise of downstream components.

  Cool-Power ZVS Buck Regulator
The PI33xx/PI34xx integrates the controller, power switches, and support components all within a high-density, low-profile Land Grid Array (LGA) System-in-Package (SiP) offering low thermal and electrical impedance to the PC board. The PI33xx/PI34xx requires only an external inductor and minimal capacitors to form a complete DC-DC switching-mode buck regulator with no design or settings required for basic operation. The PI33xx also offers a rich feature set allowing for various power options including interleaving multiple buck regulators.

The Cool-Power family's very high-density isolated DC-DC converters are built on a proprietary ZVS topology using advanced control silicon integration, state-of-the-art planar magnetics and high-performance power semiconductor technology enabling high-switching frequencies.

Factorized Power Architecture™ uses PRM buck-boost regulators and VTM current multipliers in a wide range of combinations to provide a complete isolated DC-DC power solution. The separate devices for optimized DC-DC conversion functions of regulation and isolation/transformation provide the highest degree of architectural flexibility of
design while facilitating time to market.


  Maxi, Mini, Micro DC-DC Converters
The Maxi, Mini, Micro family of DC-DC converters provides high power density and low noise, with advanced power processing in a robust package. The converters are compact and efficient, and offer several input ranges, a variety of output voltages, enhanced output programmability, remote sense, and single-wire paralleling for high power or for true redundant operation. The efficiency and packaging design simplify thermal management with baseplate operation up to 100°C. The modules are available with five temperature grades, three baseplate styles, and six pin types. Maxi, Mini and Micro product series technology allows for the automated generation of user-defined designs without the customary long lead times typical of custom designs.



Power Path Management – Active ORings

The integrated Cool-ORing product takes advantage of two different technologies combining a 1.5 mΩ on-state resistance (RDS(on)sub>) single N-Channel MOSFET with high-density control circuitry. This combination provides superior density, minimizing PCB space to achieve an ideal ORing diode function, significantly reducing power
dissipation and eliminating the need for heat sinking, while minimizing design complexity.

The Cool-Switch® PI2161 is a complete full-function load-disconnect switch solution for medium voltage applications with a high-speed electronic circuit breaker and a very
low on-state resistance MOSFET.

The PI2061 is a high-speed electronic circuit-breaker controller IC designed for use with the N-Channel MOSFETs in high-side load-disconnect switch solutions for medium
voltage applications.




DC-DC Filters – Input

  QPI Family
The Picor QuietPower QPI family of active EMI filters provides conducted common-mode (CM) and differential-mode (DM) attenation from 150 kHz to 30 MHz (CISPR22 range). The proprietary active filtering circuit provides superior attenuation at low frequencies intended to support EN Class B limits, including PICMG 3.0 for ATCA boards. In comparison to passive solutions, the use of active filtering reduces the volume of the common-mode choke, providing a low-profile, surface-mount device. Smaller size saves valuable board real estate and the reduced height enhances airflow in blade applications.
