In this webinar, Stephen Oliver brought together two industry experts who have extensive experience of designing and deploying HVDC power systems. BJ Sonnenberg and David Geary describe how a 380 VDC/400 VDC distribution system for critical applications is put together and how it compares to the traditional topologies used today.
The presentation reviews existing HVDC deployments, providing an understanding of the benefits that have been achieved in real-world applications. It also covers how to build upon existing components, standards and subsystems for a safe and efficient power system, whilst ensuring enhanced reliability, lower cost and reduction in real estate. This webinar explains how to integrate it with existing DC systems that are already present in many buildings, such as green power generation.

David Geary has 30 years of professional experience in all aspects of facility electrical engineering and energy management, specializing in high-reliability electrical power system design and installation. He has worked on a wide range of projects, including high security Government installations, large computer/datacenter facilities and communication facilities.
David is the co-inventor of the patented DC power concept for datacenter applications, a concept that has been studied in cooperation with Berkeley Labs. He works on system design, integration and prototype installations of a higher voltage DC power system for greater energy savings and reliability.
BJ Sonnenberg

BJ has over 30 years of experience with UPS and DC power systems. His broad involvement in engineering, manufacturing, marketing and sales includes roles at Exide Electronics (today Eaton), Merlin Gerin (today Schneider), Magnetek, Ericsson and Emerson Network Power Energy Systems.
BJ is a patent holder and frequent speaker at international events relating to modern approaches for critical power conversion and distribution. He is an author and co-author of numerous white papers and technical papers addressing datacenter and telecom power applications, and is a contributor to development of global standards addressing DC power applications.
