There are many opportunities to advance and increase responsibilities in Applications Engineering in support of growing product lines.
The Sr. IC Application Engineer is directly responsible for the development of a GUI used by Vicor’s customers and internal teams to configure and validate modules. Additional responsibilitie include the creation of simulation models, application notes, test boards, datasheets, and expert tools. The Application Engineer is also a key contributor to the qualification of new products and systems. Finally there are opportunities to collaborate directly with key customers and industry leaders in defining and architecting industry leading power conversion solutions.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Working independently and with other members of the team on various projects involving powertrain and system controllers.
- Lead the definition and implementation of product specific and platform wide features in a customer facing GUI. Work as an individual contributor and as a direct interface to other departments contributing to this project.
- Assist IC and product design engineering teams in defining, validating, and debugging firmware and hardware features for Vicor products.
- Circuit-level and system-level time-domain and frequency-domain simulation of different power converter topologies, analog circuits, and digital controllers.
- Designing, prototyping, and testing, hardware tools.
- Brainstorming, specifying, and verifying online application tools and functions in support of Vicor’s PowerBench suite of online tools.
- Assist product development and applications teams in troubleshooting products in development.
- Responsible for developing tools for applications and product development use, including system calculators and automated programming scripts.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, MSEE a plus.
- 5+ years of experience with power conversion hardware design.
- Programming experience in C/C++/C#, java, and scripting languages such as python
- Excellent understanding of hardware design and troubleshooting, along with an analytical approach to engineering required.
- Experience with power supervisory systems and digital communications (such as the PMBus protocol) a plus
- Familiarity with modeling and design tools such as Simulink MATLAB, Altium, SPICE, Simplis, and Simetrix.
- Comfortable with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level in front of customers.
- Some understanding of feedback and control systems, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), digital (e.g. PIC microcontroller) design, and simulation tools would be a plus
- Familiarity with office tools (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) a plus.
