Vicor is expanding to vertically integrate core printed circuit board operations.  As such, we are seeking a candidate to assist in establishing the wet process operations (specific knowledge related to electroless and electrolytic Cu application). This role will require that the candidate spend the first 3-4 months offsite at a strategic partner in Charlestown, NH training on the processes and equipment used on Vicor product.  Once trained the focus will shift to managing the setup of the equipment and processes back at the Vicor facility located in Andover, MA.


Key areas of Knowledge and Responsibility:

Process Focus areas:

    1. Surface preparation / Metallization – horizontal and vertical process operations
      • Desmear. 
      • Electroless Cu
      • Electrolytic Cu
      • Cu Etch/Differential Etch
      • Surface Finish ~ ENIG
    2. Imaging / Printed circuit fabrication / Patterning
      • Resist lamination
      • Soldermask
      • Coatings (ink jet, screenprint, slot, etc)
      • Develop, Etch, and Strip operations
      • Direct imaging (exposure) equipment
      • Artwork reviews
      • AOI equipment
    3. Lamination
      • Lay-up
      • Burkle Hot Oil Press lamination
      • Xray Imaging
    4. Laser Drill

Specific Responsibilities:

    • Oversee a team of 5-7 process engineers, technicians, etc.
    • Manage daily tactical and long term strategic initiatives with the process engineering team
    • Hands on managerial/working role.  Candidate must be prepared to both lead and support production in parallel.
    • Establishing analysis and maintenance frequencies for all process equipment / chemistries
    • Establishing cleaning protocols for all equipment/chemistries
    • Performing R&D to support new materials/technology
    • Supporting triage and working with the Vendor and onsite maintenance teams relative to any equipment down time
    • Establishing SPC and line/chemistry metrics
    • Process and operational efficiency projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or similar discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in a Printed Circuit Board, plating or equivalent industry
  • Experience in specifying equipment, qualification testing and equipment acceptance/buyoff procedures
  • Experience with process improvement and/ or new product implementation
  • Troubleshooting chemical and equipment processing interactions
  • Experience leading an engineering focused team
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multiple projects in parallel while delivering upon daily and long term goals.
  • Demonstrated capability in applying SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, etc
  • Solid skills in problem solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality principles
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems
  • Ability to work independently and be effective in a fastpaced environment
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills
