Vicor won the gold award in the Nineteenth Annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Nominees were selected for the award competition on the basis of job growth, facility expansion and investment, community involvement, and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives since January 1, 2022.

This is the second time in less than a year that Vicor’s new ChiP fab was recognized for excellence in manufacturing. Last fall Vicor was named 2022 Massachusetts manufacturer of the year, which honored Vicor for its new 90,000-square-foot, advanced manufacturing addition.

MassEcon, the state’s private sector partner for promoting business growth in Massachusetts, announced the winners from the states’ five geographic regions. Vicor received the top honor for the northeast region. The runners-up were Monogram Foods and Edwards, both of Haverhill.

“This is a great honor,” said Mike McNamara, Vicor vice president of operations. “We are very grateful to MassEcon for this award.”

Vicor’s vertically integrated ChiP Fab truly distinguishes the company not just for advanced manufacturing practices within Massachusetts, but globally. Vertical integration enables greater supply-chain autonomy to support Vicor’s anticipated growth in automotive electrification and artificial intelligence applications.

The benefits of vertical integration include:

  • Shorter Faster lead cycle times
  • Responsive problem-solving
  • Superior quality

“Our goal is to improve service to our customers and meet increased demand for our products,” said McNamara. “The new, vertically-integrated facility enables faster cycles times, improved quality, reduced costs and, of course, helps us to secure our supply chain. It really is a differentiator for Vicor.”

The addition, which opened last spring, is the world’s first vertically integrated ChiP™ (Converter-housed-in-Package) fabrication facility. The new ChiP fab sets the global standard for scalable, high-volume, cost-effective and reliable power module manufacturing in the United States.

For more than 40 years Vicor has manufactured its high-performance, high-density power modules in Andover and Lincoln, R.I.
