Key pathways for unmanned vehicle technology: From performance competition to a system-level ecosystem competition

Learn about high-density power conversion for UAVs
UAV and drone applications are growing rapidly and advanced power systems are needed to deliver peak performance. Longer range, runtime and payload levels enable greater feature sets and innovation opportunities. Commercial UAVs are undertaking new applications that require more functionality, and power is often a limiting factor in their design. Vicor high-density modular power conversion is essential in space-constrained designs that require flexibility and scalability. Power modules’ low noise simplifies filter design, and their thermally-adept packaging simplifies thermal management to significantly reduce power losses.

Increase flight time and functionality with highly efficient power delivery
Presented by Jeff Chang, Field Application Engineer of Vicor Taiwan
The Vicor 48V power module ecosystem provides solutions for the entire power delivery network, and enables innovative designs for the next generation of UAV development. The modules are typically smaller in size and lightweight with higher power density, enabling UAVs to take on larger and heavier payloads, increasing flight time and functionality. In addition these modules can be easily paralleled, allowing for designs to scale in power as UAV power demands increase and allow for the same power architecture to be deployed within a platform of various sized UAV systems.

Jeff Chang is a field application engineer of Vicor Taiwan and he is responsible for the technical support and development of new application, new market and new product in Taiwan. Jeff Chang has over 25 years of power design experience, covering handheld products, tablets and laptops, industrial products and servers. Jeff Chang graduated from the Department of Electronics, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
